Riyadh will host the second Saudi Green Building Forum at the Intercontinental Hotel from October 15-17, Arab News has reported. The main topics of discussion at the forum will be innovation in energy, water and materials. Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Prince Mansour bin Miteb highlighted the Kingdom’s green building initiatives at the inaugural annual Saudi Green Building Forum.

Citigroup has revealed in a report that the UAE cancelled and delayed construction projects worth $170bn in August, Reuters has reported. The report has shown that the UAE makes up 56% of the Middle East's total cancelled and delayed projects. The cancellations are an increase of 13% since July.

Dubai-based Nakheel wrote off Dhs78.6bn ($21bn) of its real estate assets due to the drop in the emirate's property values by more than half, Bloomberg has reported. Dubai’s biggest developer by assets has written off Dhs301.4m in the first half of last year, Dhs73.8bn in 2009 and Dhs4.44bn in 2008, according to its Islamic bond prospectus distributed last month. After the write-offs, the company’s share capital dropped to Dhs10.6bn as of June 2010 from Dhs87.1bn in 2008.

Dubai-based Drake & Scull Water and Power has won a Dhs75m ($20.4m) infrastructure contract for the construction of a sewerage project in UAE's Al Ain, Alrroya has reported. According to the contract, DSWP will be responsible for the supply, erection, installation, testing and commissioning of the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works for two treated sewerage effluent pumping stations, one bypass station in addition to the associated infrastructure works. The project is scheduled to start immediately and will be completed in November 2012.

Real estate company Century21 Qatar has said that real estate transactions in the Gulf state dropped by 6% in August, compared with the previous month because of the slowdown in business during the month of Ramadan, The Peninsula has reported. The Ministry of Justice has announced that the value of real estate transactions (between July 29 and August 25) was QR1.46bn ($400m).
